CUPA-HR Member Awards

 

Do you know a fellow CUPA member that has made a significant contribution to higher education in Arkansas?  If so please nominate them for the upcoming SWCUPA-HR Spring Conference.

AWARD CRITERIA

Each year, the members of our Southwest Region are asked to evaluate our hard working fellow members and make nominations for appropriate awards. Nominations are due by February 1st, and will be reviewed by the regional awards committee and presented to the regional board for consideration. Presentations of the awards are made at the next Southwest Regional Conference.

 

NEW! Successful Practices Award

This award is presented to an individual or team that demonstrates creativity, process improvement or professional achievement through the implementation of a significant new practice that contributes to the overall excellence of an institution’s human resource programs, services and /or administration.  A significant project or pattern of small projects will be considered.

Criteria:


Regional Lifetime Membership
This award is for Human Resources professionals who have retired or are about to retire, and who have made outstanding contributions to their institutions, to CUPA-HR and/or to the Southwest Region. The committee should be notified about any retirements that occurred in the year prior to the region’s annual spring conference.

Southwest Academy Membership
The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor those Human Resource professionals who have made significant contributions to higher education.
Eligibility for this award includes:
1. To have been a participant in the affairs of the Southwest Region for a minimum of five (5) years;
2. To have made significant and meaningful contributions over a number of years to the cumulative knowledge and stature of the Human Resource profession; and
3. The aggregate of the individual's contributions will have established the nominee as an acknowledged leader in the Human Resource profession in higher education.

The Roadrunner Award
The purpose of this award is to identify and recognize a Human Resource professional who is a positive role model having made significant contributions(s) to the profession, his/her campus and/or CUPA-HR. A significant contribution may include something innovative, service connected, creative, etc.
The process for this award is by the CUPA-HR Chapter nominating one or more individuals for consideration by the regional awards committee. If more than one person is nominated by a state, the regional awards committee will make the selection based on written information submitted.

The Hugh Avery Award of Distinction
The purpose is to identify a member of the Southwest Region for an award that in named after Hugh Avery, a former leader in the University Human Resource Profession. This individual will be judged to have met the high level of personal attributes and human resource professional standards set by Hugh Avery.
The honoree shall meet the following criteria:
1. Long-term continued involvement in Southwest Regional activities;
2. A demonstrated history of Southwest Region leadership;
3. An extraordinary practitioner of the human resource profession;
4. A sense of humor; and
5. A deep concern for the rights of all humans.

Excellence in Human Resource Practice Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize institutions of higher education that have demonstrated a desire for excellence in human resource management by establishing an institutional environment that recognizes creative and innovative approaches to human resource management that benefit the institution and the individuals within the college and university community.

Institutional nominees are expected to:
1. Provides the resources necessary to maintain a current membership in CUPA-HR and to participate in its activities;
2. Recognizes the importance of the human resource function within the organizational structure of the institution by establishing the head of the human resource department as a key member of the management team in the organization;
3. Shows receptivity to innovative approaches to human resource department activities and demonstrates a management philosophy that facilitates the development of progressive human resource programs; and
4. The head of the human resource department demonstrates a style of administrative leadership that generates support of the human resource function from the administration, faculty and staff.
Each regional institution so honored will become a finalist for a national Award of Excellence to be presented at the annual CUPA-HR National Convention.

How to Make Nominations
Nominations for these awards are to be submitted by January 1. Each nomination must include a letter describing the contributions and achievements of the nominee, a copy of the nominee's resume and, if possible, a letter of support.

CUPA National Awards

 

The CUPA-HR National Awards Program services two primary purposes:

  1. To recognize service and commitment to CUPA-HR at all levels of the association and across all ember institutions (such service and commitment may be sustained over a long period of time or specialized and focused on a few significant events or efforts), and

  2. To recognize innovation in human resource administration through implementation of state-of-the-art technology or best practices

Nominations may come from CUPA-HR members as well as from regional and chapter boards.  Self-nominations are also accepted.  Only CUPA-HR member institutions and their respective human resource practitioners can be nominated for a national award.

Donald E. Dickason Award
CUPA-HR's highest honor is named for the association's founder. Established in 1970, this honor recognizes an individual for outstanding service to CUPA-HR. National Deadline is April 1.

Distinguished Service Award
This award is given to a CUPA-HR member who has given outstanding service to the association through constituent activities, including service in governance or leadership roles, or through professional development contributions in support of the association. National Deadline is April 1.

Kathryn G. Hansen Publication Award
Created in 1986, this award is named for former CUPA-HR President Kathryn G. Hansen, who also served as an editor for the association. The award recognizes an association member who has authored a CUPA-HR publication, videotape, Web-based learning program, or CD-ROM product that has made a significant contribution in the field of human resource administration in the past year. National Deadline is April 1.

SunGard SCT Technology Awards
Created in 1999 and sponsored by Systems & Computer Technology Corporation (SunGard SCT), the SunGard SCT Technology Awards recognize demonstrated technological innovation that advances the human resource profession. One award may be granted in each but not necessarily all of the following institutional budget-based categories: Small (less than $15 million), Medium ($15 million to $50 million), and Large (more than $50 million). Each recipient will be given an award. The institution's endowment or scholarship fund will be given $3,000 on behalf of the winner (department, team, or individual). Nominations must be made by the institution or by the department of human resources. National Deadline is April 1.

Excellence in Human Resource Practices Award recognizes the achievements of colleges and universities, human resource professionals, or both in improving the quality of institutional programs and services through effective human resource administration practices. National Deadline is April 1.

The Roadrunner Award

 

The Roadrunner Award recognizes human resource professionals who are positive role models and who have made significant contributions to the profession, their campuses and/or CUPA-HR.  The namesake for this award is found in the southwestern United States, is noted for its speed and endurance and, as with human resource professionals, and has a diet which includes many snakes.
